Abstract

In this project, we aim to investigate the impact of dietary factors and life-style factors on: 1. The risk of developing urological cancers (Prostate cancer, urothelial cancer and renal cell carcinoma) and 2. Prognosis in patients diagnosed with urological cancers. We aim to evaluate this using data available within the SIMPLER-infrastructure; i.e. participants of the prospective cohorts SMS and COSM, with corresponding questionnaire-based data on life-style, health and diet, as well as linked register data. Specifically, we aim to evaluate the impact of a previously validated anti-inflammatory dietary index on cancer risk, using exposure-data from a 1997 food frequency questionnaire and diagnoses from the Swedish Cancer Register as outcome - adjusted for relevant covariates obtained from questionnaires. For analyses on life-style factors' impact on prognosis, we will use death, obtained from population register, as outcome. As separate analyses, we will also use self-reported psychological stress in a 2008 questionnaire as exposure.
